Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents Introduction to Pronto Plate with Joan Graybeal Menard. Lithography is a printing method that works on the concept that oil and water don't mix. Traditionally done on stone or ball grained aluminum plate, the Pronto plate is a more accessible method as it is made of thin, flexible, inexpensive plastic. Joan will share the basic techniques to create art on this surface and how to print with plastic plates. We will use the studio presses but people have also printed these plates without the need of a press. Students will start with utilizing laser printed images, photographs and drawings ( Joan has various images to use or you can send her some of yours in advance.) We will also test the various direct applications of drawing and mark making methods that work on this unique media. This class is an introduction to the basics. More advanced lessons can be arranged with Joan in the future if desired. Joan Graybeal Menard is a multimedia artist who believes in exploring different art techniques. Her main studies in college were in printmaking. With the access to printing presses at SVAC, Joan relearned the newer, less toxic print methods that she is now sharing. A 4 week class where we will learn basic djembe techniques, rhythm-based wellness components, basic & intermediate rhythm patterns, traditional rhythms & songs from West Africa & beyond, and more. All drums and percussion will be provided. No experience necessary. Mondays in August (10, 17, 24, 31) from 6:00 - 6:50pm. The Sperryville Summer Concert Series is back, and runs over five months, May through September. This year’s lineup includes returning and new top local bands appearing on the Sperryville stage in the River District, at 6PM every third Thursday, with rain dates every fourth Thursday, each month.

August 20: For over two decades, Tinsmith has delighted audiences with high-energy Celtic and Appalachian old-time music flavored with touches of blues, funk, and jazz. A three-time invitee to the North Texas Irish Festival, the band has played venues from The Barns at Wolf Trap to the Potomac Celtic Festival.

The concerts are located near the beautiful confluence of the north and south branches of the Thornton River, at the end of River Lane (accessed from Water Street) next to Copper Fox Antiques and Copper Fox Distillery.
