Join us in the Drying Barn and learn how to make hand-tied willow wreaths using our naturally preserved flowers.
During the workshop, we will show you how to harvest, prep, and condition willow for dried wreaths. Weather permitting, we'll take you to the willow patch where you'll harvest your own willow before heading to the barn for a willow wreath form demonstration. After we've nailed how to make a willow wreath form, we'll create a beautiful crescent dried flower wreath that celebrates the beauty of fall!
Bring the littles along to get creative too! They'll be given mini willow wreath forms to decorate with dried flower bits using glue dots.
Gardening gloves are recommended!

Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents: Introduction to Alternative Process Photography 2 with Angus Carter. This workshop offers an introduction to historic, hands-on photographic printing methods using light-sensitive chemistry and UV exposure. Participants will explore three distinct processes: cyanotype, with its characteristic blue tones; Van Dyke brown, which produces warm, sepia-like prints; and gum bichromate, a painterly technique using watercolor pigment and a single-layer print process. The workshop emphasizes a practical, process-focused approach. Participants will learn to prepare and coat papers, expose prints using sunlight or UV units, and develop images using water-based methods. All materials will be provided, but students will need to supply their own photographic images for making digital negatives. No prior experience is necessary. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a collection of handmade prints and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and craft of early photographic techniques. Angus Carter is an adjunct professor of photography at Mary Baldwin University and serves as the Executive Director of the Staunton Augusta Art Center. A graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography, he has over two decades of experience in the photographic arts. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States, including the Taubman Museum of Art and the Denver Month of Photography Festival. Carter’s artistic practice focuses on alternative photographic processes, blending traditional techniques with contemporary approaches to image-making. Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents: Kitchen Lithography Workshop with Joan Menard! This class will show you the basic idea behind the Lithography printing process. It relies on resistance of oil and water and you can create prints using items you can easily find or have at home. You will make a simple art print using aluminum foil as your base, draw an image with marker, crayons, or colored pencils, and then etch it with Coca Cola, of all things! You will print them on the center’s printing presses, but this technique can also be hand printed at home. You will explore adding color to the original black and white prints with watercolor monoprint made on kids “Shrinky Dink” plastic.” Bring your old kitchen apron, a sketch idea or three, and the instructor will bring the rest. Joan Graybeal Menard is a multimedia artist. Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents: Modern Lithography with Pronto Plates with Joan Graybeal Menard. The latest form of lithography is Pronto Plate Lithography. It is a less toxic method that allows artists to make multiple prints. In this six week class you will explore the different ways to put personal images onto a plate and the process of printing. There are many options: direct drawing, playful washes, stencil printing, photo transfer, transfer of existing drawings or digitally created art, and collaging images. The concentration will be on black and white images. You will need to bring a complete art image no bigger than 6 x 9" on an 8 ½ “ x 11" paper to the first class. You will work on site with a laser printer. Joan Graybeal Menard is a multimedia artist who believes in exploring different art techniques. Her main studies in college were in printmaking.
