New Solo Exhibition by Liza Hamilton Features Contemporary Collage Work Depicting Wildlife of the Shenandoah Valley with Mid-Century Modern Flair

Arts and Artisans Fine Art Gallery in Luray (Thurs. - Sun. 10 am to 5 pm) presents a fresh exploration of the Shenandoah Valley through image, texture, memory, and material transformation

LURAY, VA – The Arts and Artisans Gallery is pleased to present a new solo exhibition by artist Liza Hamilton, featuring a body of collage work that brings together layered imagery, hand-drawing, texture, color and form with a mid-century flair. The exhibition, which will be on view throughout September, invites viewers to experience collage as a dynamic visual language—one that transforms into compositions that feel both intimate and expansive.

Hamilton creates hand-drawn collages that blend realist drawing techniques with a distinctly mid-century modern design aesthetic. Her compositions often feature simplified landscapes, balanced geometry, muted color palettes, organic shapes and a strong sense of graphic structure. Hamilton approaches collage as an act of design and distillation. Through careful arrangement of hand drawing, stippling, and crosshatching for finely rendered detail, she transforms imagined natural settings into elegant visual narratives that explore beauty and the quiet power of place.

A lifelong devotee of the arts, Hamilton has explored many creative languages, including painting, graphic design, filmmaking, theatre, voice, ballet, guitar and metalsmithing. Her formal studies include an arts conservatory high school; a BFA in Film Studies from the University of Utah; a Certificate in Graphic Design Fundamentals from the Maryland Institute College of Art; an MLA from Johns Hopkins University; and an MPH in Health Communication from George Washington University. She has also studied with accomplished figure painters through additional classes and workshops and was heavily influenced part by her grandmother, an accomplished mid-century modern artist whose circle included figures such as Mark Rothko, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Each discipline, along with the many artists who have inspired her, has shaped the way she sees form, story, and beauty in the world.

Hamilton has a personal connection to the Shenandoah region. Her family owns a home in the valley, giving her the opportunity to spend meaningful time among its mountains, skies, rivers, and changing seasons. That familiarity with the landscape, the animals that call it home and the beauty she has witnessed in the Shenandoah Valley has inspired the collages included in this exhibition.

Visitors can experience Liza Hamilton’s collage exhibition throughout the month of September- Thursdays through Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm. The gallery invites collectors, art lovers, and visitors to downtown Luray to discover this new presentation of contemporary collage work with a mid-century modern aesthetic.
