Virginia's Lost Appalachian Trail

For more than two decades hikers on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia walked through some of the most beautiful landscapes of the southern mountains. Then, in 1952, the trail was moved. Historian Mills Kelly discovered the lost trail and writes about it in his new book which he will discuss at Books & Brews in Winchester on Saturday, December 9 at Noon. WMRA’s Chris Boros asked Mills to talk about his first hike on the trail as a kid.

Mills is also the volunteer archivist for the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club in Vienna, Virginia, which is where he first came into contact with the story of Virginia's lost segment of the AT. His podcast, The Green Tunnel, charts the history of the trail from its founding to the present.

Chris Boros is WMRA’s Program Director and local host from 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.
