Augusta County has declared a state of emergency in response to the threat to public health and safety from the Coronavirus.  The declaration allows the County to make decisions quickly concerning emergency actions.  Tim Fitzgerald is the Augusta County Administrator.

Tim Fitzgerald:  We felt it prudent that even though at this time, we do not have a positive Coronavirus test in Augusta County, we do know that it is adjacent counties to us and we felt it would be proactive for our citizens.  (:14)

Libraries in Augusta Country will be closed starting Tuesday, March 17, but residents can still check out books online and get curbside pickup in Fishersville and Churchville branches.  There are also changes at the courthouse.

Tim Fitzgerald: We also put some checks in place at our courthouse where our bailiffs are screening citizens at the door.  Those who do not have specific business, the bailiffs are asking folks to not come into the courts to try to keep from having multiple people in the courthouse at one time.  (:17)

The County says it continues to monitor the recommendations concerning the virus with local, regional, and state health experts.  You can read the press release here.
