Virtual Books & Brews November 12, 2020

Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 7pm, WMRA's Books & Brews features author Ed Ayers discussing his book, Southern Journey: The Migrations of the American South, 1790–2020. We will be exploring the evolution of southern history from the founding of the nation to the present day by focusing on the settling, unsettling, and resettling of the South. Using migration as the dominant theme of southern history and including indigenous, white, black, and immigrant people in the story, Ed Ayers cuts across the usual geographic, thematic, and chronological boundaries that subdivide southern history.

The program will be available to attend through a Zoom Webinar (registration required) and broadcast on Facebook Live through the WMRA Facebook page. Register for the B&B Webinar with Ed Ayers.

Signed copies of Southern Journey are available now from Stone Soup Books

WMRA's Books & Brews series is sponsored by Gaines Group Architects. The Gaines Group has offices in Charlottesville and Harrisonburg.

While this is a virtual gathering, we deeply appreciate our ongoing partnership with Pale Fire Brewing Company, and will return to holding our events at the taproom once it is safe to gather in person.

Edward Ayersis a Professor of Humanities at the University of Richmond, where he is also President Emeritus. He was formerly professor and Dean of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia, and is a founding member of the long running public radio program BackStory. President Barack Obama awarded him the National Humanities Medal in 2013.

Over four decades of work of writing history, experimenting with digital scholarship, collaborating in public history, and teaching and leading in higher education, Ed has tried to find new ways to connect people with the American past.
