Our March 2020 Books & Brews features Dr. Gregory Smithers discussing his book, Native Southerners, Indigenous History from Origins to Removal. It is a sweeping narrative of American Indian History in the Southeast from the time before European colonialist to the Trail of Tears and beyond.

Tuesday, March 10, 2020 in Harrisonburg at Pale Fire Brewing Company beginning at 7pm.

Wednesday, March 11, 2020 in Crozet at Pro Re Nata Farm Brewery beginning at 7pm.

Dr. Gregory received his Ph.D. in History from Universisty of California, Davis. He currently lives in Richmond, Virginia, where he teaches American History at Virginia Commonwealth University. His Research focuses on the histories of indigenous people and African Americans from the eighteenth century to present. His work is devoted to narrating the past in ways that connect with issues of social justice, environmental sustainability, and racial and gender equality.
