Event was 9-13-2012. Allen Ginsberg posse-member Gordon Ball will describe the how-and-why of his own historic photos of the epic Beat poet's most private world. Ball documented Ginsberg's personal life as no outsider could. WMRA's art exhibit of Ball's images has been extended and ends with this informal gallery talk at the Harrisonburg studio. Ball, a past guest on WMRA'sThe Spark, has shown film projects at MoMA and at the Guggenheim. The Beats continue to influence today's arts and letters. WMRA/WEMC exhibits Ball's historic glimpses into Allen Ginsberg's most personal world: his apartment, his friends, his bedside objects, his funeral. We see the dashing in-your-face counterculture leader stride the sidewalks of New York's Lower East Side, and then slowly season into an elderly ghost haunting academic conferences about his own literary past. Finally, Ginsberg fades to a blur.
Event musicians The Bloom Trio are a professional string ensemble (violin, viola and cello) based in the Harrisonburg area. Howl-readings by banjo player and occasional WMRA announcer Dan Easley. Introductions by David Jeffrey, another past guest of WMRA's The Spark.
