A noted long-time history professor at James Madison University has died from injuries sustained in a November house fire.

Dr. Steven Guerrier, age 71, died Monday evening, according to a JMU announcement.  His daughter, Jacqueline Guerrier of Arlington, had died in the same fire while visiting their parents' house in Augusta County over Thanksgiving weekend, according to their obituary in the Daily News Record.  Virginia State Police reported that Steven Guerrier was flown to VCU Medical Center in Richmond due to life-threatening injuries from the fire on November 28th.  Guerrier had taught U.S. history at JMU since 1988.  JMU's student paper The Breeze named him 'Best Professor at JMU' in 2016, and his teaching was nationally recognized.
