Matt Bingay Selected as WMRA's Executive Director and General Manager

Meghann McCoy

Following an extensive national search, we are delighted to announce that Matt Bingay has been selected for the position of Executive Director and General Manager of WMRA and WEMC, effective February 10, 2018.

Over his more than 20 years with WMRA, Matt Bingay has hosted every program, produced numerous shows, assisted with national productions, hired and trained numerous announcers and producers, and has worked closely with every department at WMRA. Recently, Matt has been serving as the Interim General Manager for the past four months.

I see a bright future for WMRA and public radio in this region, and I accept the challenge of helping to realize that future.

Matt Bingay began working for WMRA as a student intern in 1992, which led to a full-time position as Music Director in 1994. After leaving to work at New Hampshire Public Radio in the mid 90's, Matt returned to WMRA in 1997 to continue his public radio career. Matt brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served as Program Director since 1997 and Assistant General Manager since 2002.

Now, as Executive Director and General Manager, Matt Bingay will continue to grow and expand WMRA's local news efforts by seeking more funding sources for WMRA's News and Information Fund and Endowment. Matt is also committed to sustaining WMRA's on-air More News, Less Noise fundraising style, which has resulted in no fundraising interruptions to programming for almost two years.

Matt Bingay added, "Over the past few years, we've really created a culture of engagement at WMRA. This includes the introduction of our Books & Brews series and our expansion of local news content. One of our biggest accomplishments is the development of a fundraising style that honors the programs we produce, without diminishing the enjoyment of those programs. And because of our commitment to service and mission, listener and business support is growing. I'm eager to continue on this path and seek new opportunities to engage. At a time when many media organizations are merging and reducing local presence, WMRA is poised to grow and serve the community in new and meaningful ways. I see a bright future for WMRA and public radio in this region, and I accept the challenge of helping to realize that future."
