100,000 COVID-19 shots at Augusta Health

Augusta Health

Three-quarters of adult Virginians are now vaccinated for COVID-19, and Augusta Health recently hit a major milestone in vaccines. WMRA's Randi B. Hagi reports.

The 100,000th COVID shot administered at Augusta Health clinics went into the arm of a veteran named Richard on Friday. According to a press release issued Monday afternoon, the health system was able to reach this milestone with the help of the 1,025 children ages five to 11 who got vaccinated last week. The system's clinics have also given more than 13,000 boosters to eligible adults.

On Friday, Governor Ralph Northam announced that more than 83 percent of adults in Virginia have received at least one vaccine dose, and 75 percent of adults in the state are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Nearly 12 million doses have been administered statewide.

Augusta Health said that COVID stats are continuing in a positive trend, albeit with 11 patients currently hospitalized with the virus and one death over the past week. Just over a third of the hospitalized COVID patients are at a critical care level. Their positivity rate for COVID tests administered is currently 14% -- up from last week's 11%, but well down from the record 31% reported on September 21st.
