John Horst grew up in Scottdale PA (about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh) in the Mennonite Publishing House era back in the 40’s and 50’s. In the Fall of 1956 he came to Eastern Mennonite College (now EMU) in Harrisonburg VA, studying math and music, where he sang bass in the Mennonite Hour quartet. Following graduate school he returned to Eastern Mennonite University and taught mathematics and physics for 37 years.
Horst says "Music was always a wonderful avocation: singing and a bit of composing." He presently hosts Mostly Mennonite, Mostly A Cappella that airs on WEMC Sunday mornings from 8 to 9:30 am. (encore Wed. at 8 p.m.).
