This is not an event but rather an evergreen PSA request for people who may be interested in attending their first AA meeting. Suggested script:
Maybe when you drink, you keep wanting more.
Maybe drinking has gotten in the way of your dreams, of who you wanted to be.
Maybe drinking stopped being fun. Now it just makes you feel lonely.
People in AA understand. And they say, "Welcome."
You can live a sober life that's happy and free. Find an AA meeting in our area at A A Heart of V A dot org. More than 100 in-person and online meetings each week that can help you stay sober just for today. That's A A Heart of V A dot org.
The opera Zorro! by composer Hector Armienta -- first showing on the East Coast!
Come for a story of love and heroic swordfighting, as the Californios struggle against the oppresive Old World Spanish monarchy! This new opera (premiered 2022) has been described as Puccini meets Mexico. Sung in English and Spanish, with English supertitles.. The opera had been shown with great success at Santa Barbara, San Jose, Arizona, and elsewhere in the Western USA; we are proud to be the first to bring it to the East Coast.
The work is set in the early 1800's, when there was great political upheaval in Spain and México. Inspired by true events in history and based on the pulp fiction character Zorro, a young man returns from Spain to the place of his birth - el pueblo de Los Ángeles. It is there, he will find his destiny and be reunited with a young mestiza he was once forbidden to love.
Tickets are available now, with reserved seating.$75, discount $70 (seniors, first responders, military, teachers, college faculty and staff, musicians, librarians), students $15, Tuesday students $10
