The Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents Drypoint Etching: An Entry to the World of Printmaking with Diane Wilkin. This Drypoint Etching class will provide you with understanding of the basics of intaglio printmaking. Avoiding toxic chemicals, we will scribe an image on a plexiglass 'plate', slather it with ink, and then polish it so ink remains only in the grooves. This will be transferred to wet paper using an etching press with LOTS of pressure. A novice can place a 5x7 image under the clear plexiglass and 'trace' the image lines. The final image is a reverse of the drawn image. Come get messy, experience an "Ah, HA!" moment when you pull the print and take home two prints and a scribed plate - all three a piece of art. Diane Wilkin is an artist/educator who works in printmaking and pastels. A past medical photographer and high school art teacher, she is retired and pursuing her new jobs: a full-time artist and energetic grandma. Her art celebrates the woods and ocean, often with children. A transplant from suburban Philadelphia, Diane is enjoying the landscapes of central Virginia. She can be reached at diwilkin@gmail.com or 215-801-4036 and you can see more of her work at www.dianewilkin.com. (Register: www.svacart.com or call 540-949-7662, Fee: $60 + $8 materials fee due at the beginning of class, Monday, March 30, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Print Studio, 416 W.
