VMRC Elder Exchange: “From Nicaea to Constantinople: Christological Conflict and the Development of Doctrine”
VMRC Elder Exchange: “From Nicaea to Constantinople: Christological Conflict and the Development of Doctrine”
A thoughtful presentation by Revered Peter Fraser-Morris an Instructor of Religion at JMU, followed by responses from Steve Dintaman, a retired Seminary Professor and professional truck driver, and Christian Good, a Bible teacher, philosopher, and retired farmer.
In this presentation, Rev. Dr. Fraser-Morris will highlight and trace the distinctions between the creed of the Council of Nicaea (325 CE) and the creed of the Council of Constantinople (381 CE). While the latter was represented as simply “reaffirming the faith of the Nicaea,“ the minor alterations and expansions speak to the way intervening theological debates shaped and qualified the doctrinal formulae of Nicaea.
VMRC's Elder Exchange is a monthly academic assembly deliberating over issues of Christian faith and life. Elder Exchange, an initiative of VMRC residents, is sponsored by private individuals and VMRC; views expressed in these forums are not necessarily endorsed by the sponsors.
