Swannanoa Palace Tour & "Stories of an Abandoned Virginia" Presentation
Swannanoa Palace Tour & "Stories of an Abandoned Virginia" Presentation
This program is designed to provide our guests with the unique combination of a guided tour of one of Virginia's most historical mansions coupled with the visually stunning and emotionally powerful presentation titled "Stories of an Abandoned Virginia". Your presenter is John Plashal, who is a photographer, adventurer, public speaker and author of the popular coffee table book, "A Beautifully Broken Virginia". John has spent much of his free time assimilating into rural Virginia communities in an effort to find and photograph abandoned places such as houses, churches, schools and insane asylums, that have not only fallen into a beautiful state of disrepair, but also have accompanying backstories that are historically relevant or anecdotally fascinating. His images and stories will be delivered within the walls of this beautifully ornate and historical palace.
Built in 1912 by millionnaire philanthropist James Dooley, the walls of this 52 room Italian Renaissance Revival villa harbor many unforgettable and fascinating stories and are also in the early stages of decay - making it the perfect venue for Plashal's presentation and stories about forlorn places throughout Virginia and the people that once occupied them.
