Shenandoah Valley Art Center Class: Drypoint Etching, an entry to the world of printingmaking with Diane Wilkin

Shenandoah Valley Art Center Class: Drypoint Etching, an entry to the world of printingmaking with Diane Wilkin

Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents: Drypoint Etching, an entry to the world of printmaking, with Diane Wilkin. This Drypoint Etching class will provide you with an understanding of the basics of intaglio printmaking. Avoiding toxic chemicals, we will scribe an image on a plexiglass ‘plate’, slather it with ink, and then polish it so ink remains only in the grooves. This will be transferred to wet paper using an etching press with LOTS of pressure. A novice can place a 5x7” image under the clear plexiglass and ‘trace’ the image lines. The final image is a reverse of the drawn image. Come get messy, experience an “Ah, HA!” moment when you pull the print! Take home two prints and a scribed plate; all three pieces of art. Diane Wilkin is an artist/educator who works in printmaking and pastels. Her art celebrates the woods and the ocean, often with children. (Skill Level: Beginner. Pick from two different sessions: Saturday, May 17th from 10:00am to 12:00pm or Saturday, May 31st from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Fee: $68, Contact Diane for registration at diwilkin@gmail.com or (215)-801-4036. You can see her work at www.dianewilkin.com.
