Powerful Voices Stories of Survivors

Powerful Voices Stories of Survivors

JMU students in the Fall 2022 ART 360 Digital Photo and SCOM 350 Organizational Communication worked together to create an exhibition that will bring awareness to the work of New Directions in Staunton, Virginia, a non-profit that reduces the impact of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking. In addition to planning, promoting, and installing the exhibition, the SCOM students interviewed survivors and shared their stories with the student photographers who took inspiration from them. The resulting artwork that reflects the unique interpretation of each artist will be offered for sale during a reception at the New Directions Center on November 30 from 5-8 PM, with all proceeds to benefit New Directions. The faculty of these classes are Corinne Diop, School of Art, Design and Art History and Toni Whitfield, School of Communication Studies
