Devout, is a compelling new original play by native playwright and director, Sherry Ramsey. This special production will be presented as benefit performances supporting, ShenanArts Community Theater and helping to strengthen and sustain the region's vibrant performing arts community.
Devout explores the emotional journey of two brothers brought together by the declining health of their aging father. Long-buried resentments and conflicting ideas force the brothers to confront not only each other, but also the meaning of devotion, loyalty, and love. Through humor, heartbreak, and hope, the play offers a deeply human look at the challenges many families face as their parents age.
Adding to the excitement, the production features three celebrated stars from daytime television, whose acclaimed careers have earned them devoted audiences across the country. Grant Aleksander, Michael O’Leary and Robert Newman of Guiding Light fame, are coming together once again to bring depth and emotional intensity to this moving new work.
"This story is rooted in experiences that so many families understand," said playwright Sherry Ramsey. "I wanted to explore how difficult views often arise when caring for aging parents but that even in conflict, there is room for understanding and reconciliation." Sherry is also married to one of the Play’s stars and leading men, Grant Aleksander. Sherry started her career as an actress appearing is several soap operas including Guiding Light, As the World Turns and Another World before becoming a lawyer and a writer.
The benefit performances underscore the importance of community theater as a cultural cornerstone, with proceeds directly supporting ShenanArts and its mission to provide quality theatrical experiences, educational opportunities, and artistic programming for audiences of all ages.
