Organ Recital by Colin Andrews

Organ Recital by Colin Andrews

The Westminster Organ Concert Series continues its 44th season on Friday, April 4, at 7:30 pm, with an organ recital by Colin Andrews. A native of Bristol, England, and past prizewinner at the Dublin International Organ Competition, Mr. Andrews has given hundreds of solo recitals across Europe, Asia, South Africa, and the United States. He has made fourteen commercial recordings, including the complete organ works of Olivier Messiaen. He has taught at Indiana University and East Carolina University and is currently a visiting professor at Florida State University and Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Indiana. His program features music by Bach, including his magnificent Passacaglia, and contemporary music by Patterson, Tippett, and Mathias. The concert is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception.

Westminster Presbyterian Church is located at 400 Rugby Road in Charlottesville. Ample parking is available behind the church, and the sanctuary is wheelchair-accessible.

The Westminster Organ Concert Series was begun in 1980 to share the newly installed all-mechanical baroque-style pipe organ with the community. The organ, built by Taylor & Boody Organbuilders of Staunton, Virginia, has 18 stops and over 1100 pipes.
