Old Growth Forest Guided Walk at Fernbrook Preserve

Join The Nature Conservancy and The Old Growth Forest Network (OGFN) for a guided autumn walk through Fernbrook Preserve.

Hike leader Robin Hanes is a long time Charlottesville Area Tree Steward and a board member of The Old Growth Forest Network. Fernbrook is a Dedicated Forest of the OGFN.

-Trail Difficulty: Most consider this trail easy and well-maintained. The hike will take about 1-1.5 hours. View accessibility information here.

-Free and open to the public!

-No bathroom facilities. No pets.

-Bring: water, comfortable shoes, hat, and dress in layers.

Learn about traits of older forests and how they differ from managed and younger forests. Large trees at Fernbrook are around 100 years old! The trail goes beyond where this walk will turn around, with a view of the Rivanna River and a loop end. You are welcome to continue walking to view river, it will make the trip closer to two hours.
