Dunmore County Volunteers and the Williamsburg Powder Alarm of 1775

Dunmore County Volunteers and the Williamsburg Powder Alarm of 1775

Just days after the battles of Lexington and Concord, Royal Governor Dunmore ordered the removal of gunpowder from the Williamsburg magazine to a Royal Navy ship. This sparked militia units to mobilize under Patrick Henry to demand the powder’s return.
Gabe Neville, author of “The Last Men Standing: the 8th Virginia Regiment in the American Revolution,” will tell the story of Dunmore (now Shenandoah) County’s revolutionary committee, its volunteers who rallied to Henry’s call, and how it all ended with a barbecue.
Hosted by the Shenandoah County Historical Society.
Free, public welcome. Refreshments follow. Handicapped accessible. Parking across the street in the Shentel lot.
