Court Square Theater Presents Galapagos George by Barefoot Puppet Theater

A Delightful Family Puppet Show Brings the Story of the Galápagos Islands’ Most Famous Tortoise to Life

HARRISONBURG, VA — October 28, 2025 — Families are invited to experience the magic of live puppetry at Court Square Theater with Galapagos George, presented by the acclaimed Barefoot Puppet Theater. The performance will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.

Based on the true story of “Lonesome George,” the last known tortoise of his kind from Pinta Island in the Galápagos, this heartwarming and educational production introduces audiences to George, a truly one-of-a-kind giant Galápagos tortoise. Along the way, George encounters sea turtles, blue-footed birds, playful sea lions, and even some unexpected challenges. Through engaging puppetry and storytelling, the show celebrates the beauty of the natural world while sharing an inspiring message about resilience, uniqueness, and conservation.

Barefoot Puppet Theater, founded in Richmond, Virginia, has been delighting audiences across the U.S. with its creative and educational productions since 1997. Known for their beautifully crafted puppets and imaginative storytelling, the troupe makes complex topics accessible and entertaining for audiences of all ages.

This special community performance is presented in partnership with Any Given Child Shenandoah Valley and the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The program is part of a week-long residency providing all local 2nd grade students with free access to live arts experiences at Court Square Theater.
