Cantore A Cappella Ensemble at Emmanuel Episcopal Evensong

Cantore A Cappella Ensemble at Emmanuel Episcopal Evensong

Come to a beautiful historic downtown sanctuary for the joining of two different traditions that express beauty in their own unique way - men's a cappella singing, and high Anglican liturgy.

The March 2 service follows the ancient structure of Evensong, which is based on the liturgical hours of Vespers and Compline, utilizing psalms, prayers, the Magnificat, and various other confessions and intercessions.

Cantore's musical selections will span a range of styles and periods:
* Locus iste (Anton Bruckner)
* Psalm 114 (Scottish Metrical Psalter, tune: "Consolation")
* Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (music by Healy Willan)
* If ye love me - Thomas Tallis (c. 1505-1585)
* Salvation ("Come, humble sinner") - E. Jones (c. 1750), R. Boyd (1816)
* Softly and tenderly - Will L. Thompson, arr. Alice Parker
* Unclouded day - J. K. Alwood (mid 1800s), arr. Shawn Kirchner
* Benediction: Grace Be Unto You (J. E. Trowbridge, arr. Lloyd Kauffman)

In a time of great turmoil, stress, oppression, and violence in our world, we have a wonderful gift in ancient Christian liturgy that's expressed and embodied in communal singing, prayer, and scripture. Come join us!
