The Heifetz Institute and Christ Lutheran Church proudly present Bach Around the Clock, a day-long celebration of the music and majesty of Johann Sebastian Bach. On Saturday, March 22 from 9AM to 9PM, Christ Lutheran Church in Staunton will come alive with the sounds of world-class musicians and ensembles performing the works of "the immortal god of harmony." This unique event promises an inspiring and immersive experience for music lovers of all backgrounds. Bach Around the Clock is free and open to the public, making world-class performances accessible to all.
This extraordinary musical marathon will feature some of today’s most celebrated interpreters of Bach, alongside exceptional Heifetz Institute alumni, local and regional musicians, student performers, and special guests. Audiences can immerse themselves in an unparalleled lineup of performances, including:
• Colin Carr – Internationally renowned cellist and esteemed Heifetz Institute faculty member explores the profound artistry of Bach’s Suites for Solo Cello.
• Nicole Keller – Hailed for her “skilled and stylish” performances (The American Organist Magazine), Keller, a faculty member at the University of Michigan, makes her Staunton debut with a stunning selection of Bach’s organ masterpieces.
• Dr. Wanchi Huang – Acclaimed violinist and Heifetz faculty artist, Wanchi, delivers a riveting performance of Bach’s legendary Chaconne in the soaring acoustics of Christ Lutheran Church.
• Charlottesville-Albemarle Chapter of the American Guild of Organists – A showcase of Bach’s most memorable works for the “King of Instruments.”
• Nicholas Kitchen & Joseph Kitchen – Heifetz Institute Artistic Director Nicholas Kitchen, joined by his father, celebrated keyboardist Joseph Kitchen, presents a captivating program with selections from Bach’s Adagios and Fugues for solo violin and The Well-Tempered Clavier.
• Paul Weber & the Staunton Bach Orchestra & Chamber Choir – Music Director Paul Weber leads the combined forces of the Staunton Bach Orchestra, BATC Chamber Choir, soloists, and guest artists in a breathtaking finale featuring Bach’s Cantata No. 21. As described by Bach scholar Nicholas Anderson, “the concluding chorus is a veritable coup de théâtre … a hymn of praise whose jubilant, even heroic character brings one of Bach’s most powerful cantatas to a resonant concluding ‘Alleluia!’”
Audiences will also enjoy a rare behind-the-scenes look at the magnificent Taylor & Boody Op. 24 organ in honor of its 30th anniversary, with a special demonstration by John Boody, co-founder of the renowned Staunton-based organ-building company.
