All-Inclusive Neurodivergent Speed Mingling/Dating Night at new Broad Porch location (47 Court Square, Harrisonburg, VA 22802) on July 13th at 6pm

Adagio House and Broad Porch are hosting a neurodiversity speed dating night for young people on Saturday, July 13th, at 6 pm. This will be a fun filled evening for folks age 18-29, no matter their gender or sexual orientation, who identify as neurodiverse. For those who don’t know, neurodiverse encompasses people whose brain or mind are not typical. This can include someone on the autism spectrum, or someone who has ADHD, anxiety, or other possibilities.

Sharon Skates, who lives in Broadway, was inspired by the Netflix series, Love on the Spectrum, and put a callout to friends on Facebook to help her plan a similar local event. Lara Mack, Adagio House’s Community Engagement Coordinator, saw Sharon’s post and decided to jump in to collaborate.

The hope is that this event will bring together people who may be looking for a romantic connection or who want to mingle and make a friend. We will have questions and prompts for anyone who needs them because coming up with discussion topics for just 5-8 minutes can feel like a lot of pressure. We also considered that some people may have other needs to feel comfortable in these social situations, so we’ll also have fidgets and doodle supplies at each of the tables. We hope that when people see this event that if they fit the age range and self-identify as being neurodiverse they consider coming and RSVP to attend. At the very least we want this to be an event that makes everyone feel comfortable and celebrated and builds community.
