Bon Secours Mercy Health leaves Anthem network

A financial dispute between health care system Bon Secours Mercy Health and insurer Anthem-Blue Cross Blue Shield has left some Virginians with less access to health care.

Because of the dispute, thousands of seniors with Medicare managed by Anthem are now out of network at Bon Secours’ facilities.

This means if they receive care through the system, they will either have to … Pay full price for services … Find new health care providers that are still in-network with Anthem … OR Ask the state to change their plan to one that still covers services from Bon Secours.

If the disagreement is not resolved by October 1st, it will also impact about 40,000 low-income and disabled Virginians who get Medicaid coverage through the insurer.

People with Medicare or Medicaid coverage through Anthem can call the insurer to check if they can still get in-network care with their current providers.
