A car was stolen just north of Charlottesville on Tuesday with two young children in the backseat. They were soon found in a parking lot and safely reunited with their parents, but police are still looking for suspects in the theft. WMRA's Randi B. Hagi reports.

The Albemarle County Police Department reported in a press release that at about 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, they received a call about a stolen vehicle with two young children inside. The four-year-old and two-month-old had been left unattended by their nanny in a residential area on Cypress Pointe Drive.

ABBEY STUMPF: They were out searching for these missing children, and about 23 minutes later, so at 3:33, 911 received a call from someone that had found two abandoned children in a parking lot.

STUMPF: So fortunately, these kids were not injured in any way. … They were quickly reunited with their parents.

The children were found near The Colonnades, a retirement community close to a few other housing developments and wooded areas, about three miles away from where the car was stolen. The car was found directly across the street, but police did not find any suspects nearby.

STUMPF: So we're looking for anyone that may have been in the area at that time, particularly if they may have some in-car dash cam.

Anyone who was in the area of Four Seasons Drive or Barracks Road between 3 and 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday and saw the silver SUV – a 2011 Kia Sorento – is asked to contact the police department or Crimestoppers.
