Amid discussion of the midterm election results and the D.C. Metro expansion, Senator Warner spoke about Sunday's deadly shooting at UVa – noting that constituents want to hear more than "thoughts and prayers" from elected officials.
MARK WARNER: I think about this in terms of the young men who were killed who had bright futures in front of them … a senseless, senseless tragedy. Whatever we can do, at the local, state, and federal level, to try to, as much as possible, prevent – some of that means enforcement of existing gun laws. A lot of that goes to mental health issues. And it is unfortunately a crisis that takes place so many more times in America than any other industrial nation in the world, and we need to have the kind of honest conversations on this kind of issue around gun violence where too often, we talk past each other.
TheRichmond Times-Dispatchreported on Thursday that Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares will lead an external review of the shooting, while the Virginia State Police conduct the criminal investigation.
