Harrisonburg animal shelter reaches cat capacity

Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA

The Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA says they have reached maximum cat capacity. WMRA's Randi B. Hagi reports.

The SPCA issued a press release recently saying they have 371 cats in their care – the majority of them young kittens in foster care. In the preceding 30 days, the shelter took in 243 cats and kittens. Executive Director Huck Nawaz said healthy cats and kittens should not be brought to the shelter just because they are outside, as the shelter needs to have open space for animals truly in need. If you find stray cats or kittens, visit the RHSPCA's website or give them a call for guidance before bringing the felines in.

Currently, adoption fees for all animals are discounted by 50%, and the shelter is offering free spay or neuter surgeries for cats in Rockingham County.
