Hinton’s Roy Swartz is still making furniture under the Virginia Craftsmen brand... mostly by himself in an old church he’s converted into a workshop.
Virginia Craftsmen (founded in 1927), in its prime, was supplying fine, hand-made reproduction, 18th Century furniture to Monticello, Colonial Williamsburg, the Rotunda, and other such historical sites.
Roy is hoping that his son, photographer Ryan Swartz, will keep the name going.
