Remote Area Medical

A Remote Area Medical, or RAM, clinic will provide free healthcare services in Fishersville this weekend. WMRA's Randi B. Hagi reports.

The nonprofit RAM hosts pop-up clinics all over the country. This Saturday and Sunday, it returns to the Valley at the Augusta Expo event center in Fishersville. Michael Mayes is the clinic coordinator.

MICHAEL MAYES: We're going to be offering dental, medical, and vision services. Dental services are going to include cleanings, extractions, fillings. The vision services are going to include a full eye exam, all the way to getting a new pair of glasses on the same day, and then medical services are general medical including women's health services.

Services are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The parking lot opens at midnight on Friday night, and the clinic will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 6 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

MAYES: When you pull into the parking lot, somebody will greet you, and you'll make a decision on whether you're going to see vision or dental for the day, and medical's open to everybody. … But if you get dental on Saturday, you can come back on Sunday … and get vision on that day.

They're partnering with a RAM chapter at the University of Virginia to put on the clinic. To learn more about their services and ways to contribute, visit ramUSA.org.
