Tom DuVal Retires

Tom Duval, retires after a 17 year career with WMRA.

Tom has carried the station forward through a turbulent time in the media world.  Some of his accomplishments include:

  • Expanding the range of WMRA through signal acquisitions and a partnership with WMLU at Longwood University in Farmville.
  • The creation of WMRA's call-in talk show, Virginia Insight.
  • Renovating and relocating WMRA to a state of the art facility.
  • Numerous NPR personality events including visits by Ira Glass, David Sedaris, Carl Kasell, Liane Hansen and Scott Simon.
  • Negotiating the operation and management of WEMC.
  • Approved creation of WMRA's exploration of creativity in our area, The Spark.
  • The creation, production, and hosting of WMRA's showcase of local classical performances, Air Play. Following his retirement, Tom plans to continue to produce and host Air Play for WMRA, but will also pursue some of his other passions, including world travel.

The staff of WMRA and WEMC wishes him the best as he embraces many new challenges.
