Getting Ready for the Great Backyard Bird Count

Getting Ready for the Great Backyard Bird Count

Collect data to help scientists better understand global bird populations in this family-friendly program!

Each February, the world comes together to admire birds during the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). Participants spend time in their favorite places observing and counting as many birds as they can find and report their findings. This helps scientists better understand global bird populations. We hope you'll join us this year! In this family-friendly program, you’ll find out all about all about common winter feeder birds in our area and make your own mini field guide. Next, you’ll work with a naturalist to practice collecting data for GBBC. You'll leave with the tools you need to keep counting birds all weekend!

What to expect: An indoor program with a short outdoor nature walk (less than 0.5 miles).

Who can come: All ages!

What to bring: Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. Bring binoculars if you wish.

Where to meet: Meet at the Blandy library at the Quarters building. Signs will direct you from the information kiosk in front parking lot to the library.
