Mary Baldwin University's Shakespeare and Performance program in collaboration with Oak Grove Theater are proud to present: The Brats of Clarence by Paul Menzer. Performances will be at Oak Grove Theater, 845 Quicks Mill Road, Staunton, on September 14th and 15th at 7:30pm. The proceeds from these pay-what-you-will performances will directly benefit New Directions Center, Inc., a non-profit community organization devoted to diminishing the occurrence and impact of emotional, physical, and sexual violence in the Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County areas. While The Brats of Clarence might be considered an unauthorized sequel to Shakespeare's Richard the Third, this (rip roaring) adaptation is as far from its source text as you can get while still maintaining the spirit of the Early Modern English time period. This production has taken the best of both worlds to combine the foppery, sword fights, and cross dressing of Shakespeare's plays with the anachronisms and humor of a modern-day sitcom, and has wrapped it all in an easy to process format perfect for those looking for a side-splitting evening of silliness.
