Daily News-Record to outsource printing operations

new publisher takes the reigns of the Daily News-Record on Saturday, and changes may be on the horizon for the paper. WMRA's Randi B. Hagi reports.

A Daily News-Record reporter posted on Twitter this week that the newspaper will be outsourcing its printing operations as of October 15th, and this would likely mean the loss of production jobs. They are also cutting the Saturday edition of the paper and will only be publishing Monday through Friday, according to the Tweet.

The Daily News-Record's interim and incoming publishers did not respond to an email request for confirmation. An employee at The Winchester Star, which is owned by the same parent company, Ogden Newspapers Inc., told WMRA that since they were bought out in 2018, their papers have been printed by The Frederick News-Post in Maryland. However, he couldn't speak to whether the Daily News-Record might be printed there as well.

Randi B. Hagi first joined the WMRA team in 2019 as a freelance reporter. Her writing and photography have been featured in The Harrisonburg Citizen, where she previously served as the assistant editor; as well as The Mennonite; Mennonite World Review; and Eastern Mennonite University's Crossroads magazine.
