VALLEY VOICE
radio reading service
for the blind and print-impaired
Valley Voice is a radio reading service for the print handicapped.
It is a non profit service to provide information from print publications
to people who can not read because of a physical or visual impairment.
We help Shenandoah Valley residents who are blind, who suffer
from visual problems, who can not hold a book, turn pages, or
focus on print material. We aim to supply daily information from
local newspapers, periodicals, and magazines to approximately
10,000 individuals.
Valley Voice uses special subcarrier radios or Cable TV channels to deliver the service free of charge to listeners. We purchase the radios with money from donations and grants, then lend them to qualified individuals. The listeners then get access to the local information that they need. Within many areas the signal is available on Cable TV. Call the Valley Voice for more information.
Valley Voice volunteers read full news stories from local newspapers,
plus obituaries, shopping advertisements, and editorials. We take
pride in bringing our listeners local information that keeps them
in touch with the community. Valley Voice is many times our listeners'
only source of information that you take for granted.
Valley Voice relies on donations of time and money to help serve
the print impaired. Your contribution of time or money keeps the
Valley Voice running. If you would like to volunteer to read,
operate the control board, build awareness of our services, or
raise funds, we'd love to have your help! Please contact the Valley
Voice for more information.
