WEMC Expands Classical Music Offerings

Classical music is now a more prominent part of the daily broadcasts on WEMC including showcases of some of the nation’s premiere symphony orchestras.

We’re now featuring live performances from the Chicago Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony and the New York Philharmonic, as well as performances by the Chamber Society of Lincoln Center and highlights from Germany’s Deutsche Welle Festival Concerts. We’re also giving you a second opportunity to hear Mostly Mennonite, Mostly Accapella and Air Play.

Monday nights at 8, you can now hear the Chicago Symphony under the seasoned baton of music director Riccardo Muti, and featuring guest artists like Yo-Yo Ma, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Mitsuko Uchida, and Bernard Haitink. And host Lisa Simeone takes you behind the scenes and into the music.

Tuesday nights at 8 will now feature the Pittsburgh Symphony. Hosted by Jim Cunningham, with favorite classics, great conductors and remarkable soloists, presented in a lively, fresh style.

Wednesday night at 7, Classical Guitar Alive features music and interviews with many of the world's foremost guitarists and composers, and is hosted by Tony Morris. Then at 8 Wednesday night we're presenting an encore broadcast of Mostly Mennonite, Mostly Accapella with our very own John Horst.

Thursday afternoon at 1, Air Play showcases our regional classical artists and groups and Thursday night at 8, you can now hear the New York Philharmonic, one of the world's longest-running and most celebrated orchestras.  You’ll tag along on the Philharmonic's tours, hear performances from their Summertime Classics, and get highlights from the orchestra's residency at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival in Colorado.

Friday nights at 8, we’re featuring a cross-section of the world's most exciting classical music artists performing at the Deutsche Welle Festival Concerts in Germany. You’ll hear performances by top German orchestras like the NDR Symphony and the Bamberg Symphony, alternating with superb orchestras from abroad, including Poland's Sinfonia Varsovia, Russia's Ural Symphony to Great Britain's Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and London Symphony Orchestra.

Saturday afternoon at 3, join us for Concierto, classical music presented in Spanish and English. The program features classical music by Latin American and Spanish composers and musicians.
