Makerspaces; Fine Arts Education; Visual Arts in Charlottesville

What if there were a place that existed just to provide space to create?  In this space you could make almost anything you wanted and you could do it alongside other creative innovators. Such places, called "makerspaces," are beginning to crop up in cities all over the United States including Charlottesville and Staunton. WMRA’s Kara Lofton has the story....  That drive to create is not always encouraged in many children.  Beginning in grade school, arts education is often a hit-or-miss opportunity, available to some students, some of the time.   But, as Margee Greenfield reports, despite budget cuts and other hurdles, some schools, including Harrisonburg High, are making the fine arts a priority in education....  And, WMRA’s Sefe Emokpae took a look at what Charlottesville has to offer on the arts scene and spoke with some of those vying to promote the visual arts there.

Bob Leweke is WMRA's News Director and Morning Edition host.
